Great tip on progressing with micro-increments Dave! I picked up some of the 1.5 lb and 2.5 lb magnetic weights for the same purpose, but this idea is even better. I like the way it allows you to progress in even smaller increments, which is so important, percentage wise, on the lower weights. I didn’t even know about this type of ankle weight, and now will be sure to pick up a pair.
Thanks again for a great tip!
Hey Dave. Once again, nice information you are sharing. I haven’t seen those variable weighted straps before. Those seem to take a bit of time (not much) to set up and wrap around each wrist/ankle. Have you tried micro-loading utilizing PlateMates (http://www.theplatemate.com/products.htm)? They’re much faster to add/remove from the DB, and can also be used quickly on a barbell or weight stack. I use them ALL the time during my progressive weight training.
Max
Max–yes, we use the “plate mate” fractional magnetic plates for barbell and machine exercises, but use the wrist weights instead with dumbbells for safety reasons. When I worked in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers weight room, one of the wide receivers used the magnetic plate mates during dumbbell shoulder presses, and one of them slid off and conked him in the head. I have enough mental problems without getting conked in the head with a magnetic plate, so I stick with those wrist weights

Very cool! Very simple and precise. Thanks for the tip, Dave! Gotta get me some of those.
i’ve always just used a hand strap and grabbed a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 lb. plate.
This is a nice idea, I’ve been looking on this lately and I think i should try using that weight adder in my daily dumbbell exercise. Thanks for sharing such a nice idea, I’ll roam around you;re site to find more ideas to take note.
